Redlands Students

Facts you may not have known about Redlands.

In May of 2009, the Redlands Women’s Golf Team successfully defended their national championship by 15-strokes. This is their third national title in the past five years. Nicola Race, RCC sophomore, also defended her Individual National Title. Race won the prestigious Betty Jo Graber award, which is given to the Top Female NJCAA Athlete. Coach Gerrod Chadwell was honored as "Coach of the Year."

The Redlands Livestock Judging Team has also had great success over the past year. The team finished the year ranked #1 in the nation. Dr. Clay Elliott was honored as "Coach of the Year" and three students: Brandi Capps, Casey Hilmes and Katelyn Karney were honored as All-Americans.

This year, the Equestrian Team took high point team honors at the West Texas A&M University equestrian contest.  Sophomore Megan Matthews won the national championship in her division at the Intercollegiate Horse Show last spring.

Redlands has the second highest concurrent high school enrollment in the state, second only to Tulsa Community College.

RCC offers classes at 30 high schools. Students may take live instructor-led courses, online courses & interactive TV courses. In fall 2009, 638 high school students took concurrent courses earning 2,969 college credit hours. This spring, 607 high school students are taking 2,918 credit hours.

Enrollment at Redlands Community College for the spring 2010 semester is up 12% for full-time student FTE.

In the fall, Redlands hosted the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and his "Rural Tour." Vilsack chose RCC, his lone stop in Oklahoma, to host a forum discussing the efforts to rebuild and revitalize America.

RCC played host to two large events this spring. First, the North American Colleges & Teachers of Agriculture Judging Contest (NACTA) and then the National Land Judging Contest. These events brought over 2,000 students and teachers into central Oklahoma.

This month, nearly 250 Redlands students will receive either their associate’s degree or a certificate of completion.

The Nursing program facilities underwent a major renovation. The new building features state-of-the-art technology, computer labs and a simulation lab that mimics real life traumas they will face in the field.

The RCC Foundation, in fall 2009, awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

RCC has full accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission and specialized accreditations from the National League of Nursing (8 yr.), the National Learning Resources Association, the National Athletic Trainers Association and National Agroknowledge.

U.S. Veterans of all ages are benefiting from a federal grant that Redlands has received. The Veterans Upward Bound grant, which amounts to a million dollars over the next four years, will help veterans navigate their way from the military to the classroom.

Redlands was awarded the President’s Award for Community Service for their involvement with the "Keep El Reno Beautiful" project. Other community projects include mentoring DHS children, Blessing Baskets & Heifer International.

Redlands’ chapter of Phi Theta Kappa won several awards this year at the regional and international level. Regional awards included: Most Distinguished Chapter, Most Distinguished Chapter Member, Distinguished Chapter President and three awards for written essays. International awards were given to the Chapter President MilliAnn Allen and Chapter Member Doug Grisham.

RCC Student Issac Cox was honored as a New Century Scholar for 2010 and represented Oklahoma in the opening ceremonies at the American Association of Community Colleges Convention.

The RCC Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won the regional SIFE competition and will represent Oklahoma and the region at the national competition in May.
