EL RENO- Redlands Community College has added a new program to the variety of business administration programs offered. The new Legal Office Professional program equips students with the skills necessary to succeed in today's legal and corporate environment.

Legal office professionals are a growing segment of in-demand occupations in the United States with 263,800 jobs in 2008 and a 28% projected employment growth between 2008 and 2018, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"The new career option, Legal Office Professional, offers students yet one more exciting, challenging career option within our Business Administration Technology AAS program. Both personal and professional knowledge of this area will prove invaluable," said Dr. Juanita Krittenbrink, Division Director for Liberal Studies & Management Sciences.

The skills learned in the Legal Office Professional program and the related coursework will allow graduates to work with businesses such as law firms and legal departments, government agencies, courts, insurance companies, banks, mortgage companies and non-profit agencies.

The program is designed to allow graduates to head straight into the work force after receiving their degree or they can transfer to a four-year school to finish their bachelor's degree.

This fall a new course will be offered called "Legal Procedures and Professions." This course provides an overview of general legal information including the history of law, court system structure, and litigation procedures. The course includes the study of law office management and procedures emphasizing docket control, ethical concerns, and legal career options.

"At times, every individual will need some basic knowledge about legal matters to help them make informed decisions in their personal life," said Professor Sandra Warren. "For that reason, any student would benefit from taking the new course offered this fall, not just those considering the legal profession as a chosen career field."

The Legal Office Professional program joins a variety of business oriented programs that Redlands currently offers such as Accounting, Administrative Assistant, International Business, Management, Medical Coding and Reimbursement and Medical Transcription.

Enrollment for the fall semester courses is now underway. These courses are available via convenient online delivery format.
