Online Degree Programs Expanded

To meet the needs of its diverse student body, Redlands Community College has added several online degree options to its list of programs. Students now can earn degrees 100% online in General Studies, Criminal Justice and Child Development.

“Online degrees remove more of the barriers for individuals wanting to further their education or earn certifications preparing them for the workforce,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant. “We understand that it is oftentimes difficult for our students to focus solely on attending college. Many students must work full-time, or at least part-time, jobs while taking classes, or they have family obligations that require their attention. With more online degree options, our students will be able to get the education they need for the career they want.”

Redlands has been offering an online Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice for several years, but now students can choose an online Associate in Arts in Criminal Justice, as well as Associate in Arts in General Studies, Associate in Applied Science in Child Development and a Certificate in Child Development.

Wayne Cartwright, a 2020 Redlands graduate, decided late in life to go to college and boost his career opportunities. Redlands’ online Criminal Justice program was a good fit for his busy work schedule and life.

“I am already in law enforcement and have a demanding career so online was the only option for me. Redlands also offered credits for training I have already received over the years and those transferring were a great asset to me,” Cartwright said. “The faculty here is awesome, as I had encountered a few problems with distant learning, and with an email or phone call, all problems were taken care.”

Redlands full-time and adjunct faculty are well trained in providing online instruction, having participated in extensive professional development in this specific area. Additionally, last year, faculty and staff worked with ABLE Tech to ensure that syllabi and online teaching tools met accessibility standards.

High school students who take advantage of the concurrent enrollment program as juniors and seniors could earn finish the General Studies degree online soon after graduating high school. Catherine Huber is a 2019 El Reno High School graduate who will be graduating from Redlands this spring with a degree in General Studies. She has enjoyed her time at Redlands.

“I haven’t had a professor I haven’t liked,” Huber said. “I can go to my professors anytime I need to and talk to them if I’m having any trouble.”
Redlands currently offers online associate degrees in Family Studies and Child Development and Enterprise Development, and certificates Human/Social Services Assistant, Criminal Justice-Corrections and Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement.
