Redlands Graduate Cameron Hill Invited to Major League Spring Training

EL RENO, Okla. — While Redlands Community College hosts its baseball home opener Thursday at noon, Redlands graduate and baseball stand out Cameron Hill is making the most of his invitation to the Cleveland Indians’ spring training in Goodyear, Ariz.

“It has been a humbling experience being around some of the all-time greats like Terry Francona, Carl Willis, Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller, Cody Allen, Jason Kipnis, Michael Brantley and many more,” Hill said. “I’m here to handle my business and try to learn from all of these guys with a ton of experience.”

Hill is one of 20 non-roster players to be invited to Cleveland’s big league spring training along with the team’s 40 players. His assignment for the upcoming season will be determined at the conclusion of spring training.

In 2014, Hill graduated from Redlands with an associate degree before being drafted by Cleveland. Since that time, he has been pitching for the organization’s farm teams, but he speaks highly of his time at Redlands.

“I couldn’t ask for a better group. It was a good time and a good team,” he said. “It was everything I wanted it to be, and it opened up doors for me.”

During the off season, Hill spends time in his hometown of El Reno, working with coaches and players at the high school and college facilities. Now that he has a chance to compete at the highest level, Hill is excited to be learning from the guys he grew up watching.

“I’m humbled, but at the end of the day, it’s up to me to take care of business,” he added.
