REDLANDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE RECEIVES GRANT RENEWAL

FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

EL RENO, Okla. — The U.S. Department of Education has renewed a grant totaling $1.28 million for Redlands Community College’s Veterans Upward Bound program for an additional five years, which extends the program until 2023.

Veterans Upward Bound is a free college-prep program created to help qualified military veterans prepare for postsecondary education. Students who participate in the Redlands’ program are able to apply for Veterans Affairs benefits and college admission utilizing the program’s full-service computer lab. The lab also serves as a classroom where students receive tutoring and participate in computer-based learning to improve their academic skills.

“Veterans Upward Bound is a valuable resource for many of our veterans, and Redlands is honored to participate in this program,” said Redlands President Jack Bryant. “Our staff has done a remarkable job of administering the program and serving numerous veterans. We look forward to supporting our veterans on their path to a college degree over the next several years.”

Although the national application process was very competitive, the Redlands program received a perfect score from the selection committee.

“Veterans Upward Bound is an important resource for military veterans who have the desire to pursue a degree but need support to succeed with such an undertaking,” said Amy Graham, acting director of Redlands Veterans Upward Bound. “We are excited to have the opportunity to continue providing veterans in our service area with essential educational resources, including academic tutoring, counseling and guidance in the areas of academic programs, admission and financial benefits.”

The Redlands Veterans Upward Bound is headquartered at the main campus in El Reno but has satellite offices at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma Works office in Lawton and the Kiowa Tribe Office of Veterans Affairs in Anadarko.
