  Phi Theta Kappa Advisor

Cherry is a first generation college graduate earning her A.A. from Rose State College. She went on to the University of Central Oklahoma to receive her B.A. and M.A. in political science. Graduating in 2003, she was awarded "Outstanding Graduate Student."

Ms. Rain has taught as an adjunct at several Oklahoma colleges and worked with many others in some capacity to build a longstanding career in higher education. She has been honored by the Oklahoma Global Education Consortium, the Oklahoma Community College Association, the Leadership Council of Oklahoma City Community College, and awarded "Outstanding Faculty" at Oklahoma City Community College.

Cherry Rain is a political science professor at Redlands Community College where she has also taught English Comp I. Ms. Rain also serves as a Phi Theta Kappa advisor for the Redlands chapter and hopes to emphasize inclusion and leadership skills. KSBI channel 52 will debut the new college quiz bowl "Mind Games" and Professor Rain is the academic coach for the Redlands team.

Cherry is, also, currently the Oklahoma Community College Association Chair for the Great Ideas for Teaching (GIFT) Program where she strives to promote and acknowledge innovation in the classroom. Ms. Rain has, in the past, won GIFT awards for Comp I: "Advancing Critical Thought in Compositions" and political science: "The Individual's Place in a Global Society."

Professor Rain challenges students to add to the public debate, not regurgitate it. She believes the fundamentals of research must begin on the first day of college and permeate through all areas of study. "Undergraduate research is a vital resource in a fast paced global society."
