The Redlands Upward Bound program is an intensive, year-round program for high school students. The program prepares students academically, culturally and socially to succeed in life after high school. Through classes and activities, we assist low-income, first-generation, college-bound student in developing the skills to help them succeed in college. Upward Bound is part of the national TRIO program.
Students attend a mandatory six-week, non-residential academic program on campus during June and July. They receive instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, foreign language, study skills, critical thinking, and computer literacy. They also participate in social/cultural events and college campus tours.
To be considered for Redlands TRIO Upward Bound, students must meet the following criteria:
- A student must be enrolled at one of the following high schools: Calumet, Geary, El Reno, Hinton, Minco or Union City. Participants join before entering the 9th or 10th grades and continue with the program through their high school graduation and entry into college.
- A student must be a member of a family in which neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor's degree or a family whose taxable income does not exceed the level established by the U.S. Department of Education.
