Foundation Scholarships
Scholarships are to be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and campus housing.
Funding of scholarships is contingent upon availability of funds. Claim and use scholarship
award in the academic year (excluding summer term) immediately following selection.
Any unused portions of scholarship funds, after authorized expenses are paid, remain
in the Redlands Community College Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Scholarships are listed below according to application requirements. Most applications are due February 1. However, nursing scholarship applications, with the exception of the Romaette Bryant Memorial Scholarship, are due May 31.

Scholarship Categories
Academic Team Transfer Scholarship
Must be an active member of the Redlands Community College Academic Team - Must be
a (Current Year) Redlands Community College graduate who has fulfilled all graduation
requirements and completed at least 45 hours of required program at Redlands Community
College - Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above prior to the
final semester before graduation - Must have written recommendation from the Redlands
Community College Academic Team Coach - Recipient must attend a college or university
that is regionally or nationally accredited and be enrolled in a minimum of twelve
(12) credit hours.
Christopher Lane Endowed Scholarship
Student must be a Redlands baseball player. Must have accumulated a minimum GPA of
2.5 on a 4.0 scale and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. The award will
be applied towards tuition, fees, books, housing, and other college related expenses
payable through the RCC Business Office.
Redlands Community College Travis Black Foundation Scholarship
Must enroll at Redlands Community College in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester
– minimum GPA of 2.5 during high school – GPA of 2.0 must be maintained while enrolled
at Redlands Community College - provide financial need information. Must be a Redlands
baseball player.
RCC William “Bill” Gorden Memorial Scholarship
Student must have completed at least 12 semester hours and be currently enrolled in
at least 12 semester hours. Applicant must also submit a 1,000 word essay discussing
how the applicant sees themselves exemplifying Professor Gorden’s ideals and interests,
which include the arts, philosophy, languages, literature, social sciences, and social
justice. The award will be applied towards tuition, books, fees and other college
related expenses.
Ruth Ellen Strong Memorial Scholarship
Student must have accumulated a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Award recipients
must be employed a minimum of 15-20 hours per week, and enrolled in at least 12 credit
hours.
Burruss Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Burruss, Geary, OK. It is the desire of the Burruss’
to assist a worthy student in furthering his or her education. Must be enrolled in
a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, have completed
one semester of college, exhibit a strong work ethic along with high character and
integrity. Preference to residents of Canadian and adjoining counties who demonstrate
financial need.
Scott L. Harlan Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Must be a student at Redlands Community College, have a minimum GPA of 2.75 or ACT
of 17, must submit with application a copy of high school and/or college transcript
verifying GPA and ACT score, must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.
Redlands Community College Drs. Owen and Bess Jenkins Endowed Scholarship
Student may be a freshman or a returning student entering their sophomore year at
Redlands Community College, must have accumulated a minimum grade point average of
3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 3.75 on a 5.0 scale. Recipient must attend Redlands Community
College on a full-time basis and enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Preference
will be given to education majors but other majors will be considered. Students must
submit a one page essay on “How receiving a degree will help you in the future.”
T. G. Johnson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in the memory of T.G. Johnson by his family. Eligible for freshman or
returning students. Preference will be given to declared education majors. Must enroll
or be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester. In 200 words or less,
student must submit an essay stating their greatest accomplishments and how they have
used that experience to influence or inspire others. Provide a written recommendation
from an educator and contributing member of community. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or
ACT of 19.
Kiwanis, Lions, & Rotary Clubs Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Kiwanis, Lions, and Rotary Clubs of El Reno to provide financial
support for a returning, full time Redlands student with a proven record of academic
excellence to help cover college related expenses. Awarded to a returning Redlands
student who has completed a minimum of 30 credits hours at Redlands and attained an
overall GPA of 3.0. Selection criteria will include record of service, activities,
honors, and awards.
Redlands Community College Edna McMahon Kelly Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Must have accumulated a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or achieved
a composite score of 17 on the ACT. Must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each
semester. Preference will be given to declared education majors. Must provide financial
need information.
Redlands Community College Ray Porter Memorial Faculty Senate Endowed Scholarship
The Ray Porter Memorial Faculty Senate Endowed Scholarship is in honor of Dean Emeritus
Ray Porter. Must have completed at least 12 semester hours and current enrollment
in at least 12 semester hours - GPA of at least 3.0. Must provide financial need information.
Redlands Community College Alumni & Friends Association Endowed Scholarship
Must enroll as a freshman at Redlands Community College in a minimum of 12 credit
hours each semester, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or ACT of 17, and provide financial
need information. Must submit letter explaining why he/she is a good candidate for
this scholarship.
Redlands Community College Foundation Scholarship
Established by the Redlands Foundation for students enrolled full time at Redlands.
Minimum GPA of 2.5 or ACT of 17, must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each
semester and provide financial need information.
James D. (Jim) Shaw Memorial Endowed Scholarship
James D. (Jim) Shaw was a faculty member at Redlands Community College for 27 years
and a resident of El Reno for 41 years. He was a brilliant scholar and teacher in
the communication arts. He loved language, grammar, and vocabulary, and he was a model
of dedication and integrity. This scholarship was established to provide assistance
to a current Redlands Community College student who reflects these interests and values.
The scholarship was established in memory of James D. (Jim) Shaw by his wife (Joquita
Shaw), children (Jill Shaw Taylor, Justin Shaw, and Jason Shaw), children-in-law (Ward
Taylor, Jennifer Shaw, and Michelle Duffy), grandchildren, and other family members
and friends. Must enroll at Redlands Community College in a minimum of 12 credit hours
and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Tommy Pinkston Family Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Jack and JoAnn Gedosh established this scholarship in memory of JoAnn Pinkston Gedosh’s
parents, Tommy & Marguerite Pinkston and brothers, Bill and Mike, who were long-time
residents of the Minco-Union City community. With roots in Canadian County and a strong
advocate of the community college system, JoAnn is paying tribute to her family as
well as saying “thanks” for a good place to grow up. The Gedosh gift created a paramount
opportunity for the Foundation to partner with the Oklahoma City Community Foundation
which facilitated the college Foundation to apply for a matching grant from the Kirkpatrick
Family Affiliated Fund. Student shall be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours
each semester in a curriculum that results in an AA or AAS and maintain a 2.5 GPA
during attendance at Redlands Community College. Preference will be given to Minco-Union
City applicants.
Trotter-Gambel Endowed Scholarship
The Trotter-Gambel Endowed Scholarship was established in 1993 by Mr. and Mrs. Burrell
Gambel of Chickasha. Recognizing the increasing need for a college education and the
number of adult women pursuing a college education, the purpose of this scholarship
is to assist those women who continue to balance family responsibilities and, oftentimes,
full-time employment while continuing their education at Redlands Community College.
Adult female student at least 25 years of age - be employed full time - submit letter
explaining the importance of the scholarship to the applicant - past academic performance
and financial need will be selection considerations - enroll in a minimum of 9 credit
hours each semester.
Redlands Community College Dr. Bill & Sondra Cole Scholarship
Student must attend Redlands Community College on a full-time basis and be enrolled
in a minimum of 12 hours and have accumulated a minimum grade point of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale. Student must submit a one-page essay on “Every person has a responsibility
to make their world a better place”. Preference will be given to education or biology
majors but other majors will be considered.
Charles and Ruby Holbrook Scholarship
Student must be a second year Redlands Community College student, be enrolled in a
minimum of 12 hours, and have accumulated a minimum grade point of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Preference given to a previous recipient of the El Reno High School Class of ’65 Endowed
Scholarship. Must submit a written letter explaining how receiving this scholarship
will be of benefit towards achieving your educational goal.
N.E. and Pearl Douglas Memorial Scholarship
Must be a graduate of a high school located in Redlands Community College service
area. Have accumulated a minimum grade point of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or ACT of 17. Must
declare a major in law enforcement-related field, must be enrolled at Redlands in
a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, three (3) which fulfill Criminal Justice
program requirements.
Casey Dell Brantley Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by Peggy Brantley and the late Bob Brantley of Calumet in memory of their
daughter Casey Dell Brantley. Casey would have been in the Calumet graduating class
of 2001 and the money she had personally saved for her college education was used
for the first scholarship award. Casey was interested in pursuing a health-related
or legal profession. Graduating Senior of Calumet High School - preference to health related or legal profession majors - minimum GPA of 2.5 or
ACT of 17 - be employed part-time and/or active in community activity or service.
Cathi “Mac” Kennedy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Bob and Peggy Brantley in memory of their daughter, Casey Dell Brantley.
The scholarship is named in honor of Casey’s favorite teacher, Ms. Cathi “Mac” Kennedy,
who touched their daughter’s life in a special way. Ms. Kennedy was a Calumet teacher
who went beyond the duties normally required of a teacher and she will be honored
in years to come for this dedication. Applicants must have graduated from Calumet
High School at least one year prior to application, be employed part-time or active
in community, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or ACT of 17, and enrolled in a minimum of
9 credit hours each semester. Must also provide a written recommendation from employer,
educator, or community leader. Preference will be given to applicants who indicate
an interest in pursuing a health related or legal profession.
El Reno Chamber of Commerce / Leslie F. Roblyer Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Must be a graduate of El Reno High School and have accumulated a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or achieved
a composite score of 17 on the ACT. Must enroll at Redlands Community College in a
minimum of 12 credit hours each semester; submit a personal letter of career goals
with emphasis on leadership, social and community activities; and provide financial
need information.
El Reno High School Class of ’65 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the EHS Class of ’65 to leave a lasting legacy for future
El Reno High School graduates. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating El Reno
High School student who has at least a minimum grade point average of a 2.5 on a 4.0
scale, enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours at Redlands Community College, and provide
financial need information. Applicant must submit an essay explaining how receiving
this scholarship will be of benefit towards achieving your educational goal.
Harold H. & Rebecca Raney Hutson Scholarship
Established by the late Mr. Harold Hutson and Mrs. Rebecca Hutson of Ft. Smith, Arkansas,
to provide financial support for an El Reno High School graduate planning to continue
their education at Redlands Community College. Must be a recent graduate of El Reno
High School with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, achieved a composite score
of 17 on the ACT, provide financial need information, and submit an essay stating
the personal benefit of the scholarship. The applicant must not be awarded any other
major scholarships. The award is applied toward tuition, fees, and books only.
Marie West Lyons Scholarship
Established by Mr. Leon Wayland in memory of Ms. Lyons, who was a member of Chapter
AE, P.E.O. She was a longtime resident of El Reno who had an intense interest in journalism,
commercial art, and the fine arts in general. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate
of El Reno High School or a high school in the El Reno School district and be enrolled
in either a fine arts or journalism curriculum. Applicant must provide two letters
of recommendation from people who know applicant’s potential but are unrelated to
the applicant and must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester -
a minimum of three (3) hours fulfilling Journalism or Arts Curriculum program requirements.
Tyler Knecht Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Tyler Knecht. This scholarship is awarded
to a graduate of Okarche High School. Applicants are required to write in 200 words or less their greatest accomplishments
and how they used that experience to influence and inspire others. A written recommendation
from a high school educator is also required. Must be a graduate of Okarche High School,
have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or ACT of 17 and must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours
each semester.
Program of Study Based Scholarships
CHS Foundation Scholarship
Must enroll at Redlands Community College in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, declare
a major in agriculture and enroll as an agriculture science major.
El Reno Masonic Lodge #50 / Redlands Aggie Club Endowed Scholarship
Must enroll at Redlands Community College in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester,
declare a major in agriculture, enroll as an agricultural science major and provide
financial need information.
Renna V. Royse Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time freshman at Redlands Community College,
have a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and be enrolled as an Agriculture
major with a preference of students coming from Canadian County. Financial need, grades,
extent of involvement in the agriculture program, and the student's future plans as
stated in the application form will be the selection criterion.
Emily Kay Wilds Memorial Scholarship
Student must be a graduating senior of a Canadian County high school. Must have accumulated
a minimum GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale, and must declare a major in an Agriculture related
field. Must submit a 240 word essay describing the personal qualities, reasons for
majoring in an agricultural related field, future goals, and past extracurricular
experiences while in high school. Award recipient must include two letters of recommendation
with their application.
Virdin Royse Memorial Scholarship
Must be enrolled as a full time freshman, have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, must
declare a major in agriculture. Financial need, grades, extent of involvement in the
agriculture program, and the student's future plans as stated in the application form
will be the selection criterion.
Henry Jo Von Tungeln Memorial Agriculture Scholarship
Established in memory of Henry Jo Von Tungeln and is for students who declare a major
in agriculture. Applicants are required to write in 200 words or less how they plan
to benefit agriculture and those who produce agriculture commodities with this scholarship
opportunity. Must declare a major in Agriculture, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or ACT
of 17, enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours each semester and provide financial need
information.
Karen Boucher Memorial Scholarship
Recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester, and maintain
a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Preference will be given to applicants who have
declared a major in Education. The award is applied toward tuition, fees, books, campus
housing, and other college related expenses.
Applications due May 31
Cheryl Ross Rinehart Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Must be entering into their freshman year of Nursing School, minimum GPA of 2.75 and
enrolled in a minimum of 8 credit hours. If not enrolled in 8 hours, you must provide
a written explanation from the Nursing Department explaining the situation. Submit
a one page essay on “Humor and Nursing.”
Martha Piper Nursing Scholarship
Established in honor of Martha Piper, a longtime faculty member in the nursing department.
Awarded to a single parent student entering the nursing program as a freshman or a
sophomore. Must be accepted into the RCC School of Nursing, minimum grade point average
of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, and enrolled in at least 8 hours. If not enrolled in 8 hours,
you must provide a written explanation from the nursing department explaining the
situation.
Michael Earl Croy Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to an adult nursing student who has completed certain criteria in the Redlands
nursing program. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Croy, Yukon, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Croy, Binger, and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Warren, El Reno, are the donors of the scholarship. Applicant must
have completed first semester of nursing school at Redlands Community College with
a “C” or higher grade and be enrolled in second semester of nursing school, provide
evidence of participation in campus and civic activities, leadership positions, organization
membership, awards, and other honors, submit an essay (up to 750 words) stating why
nursing has been chosen as a career goal, and provide financial need information.
Romaette Bryant Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Deadline January 9th
Applicant must be a student entering the program as a freshman or sophomore at Redlands
Community College and have been accepted into the Redlands nursing program – Enrolled
in at least 8 hours. If not enrolled in 8 hours, you must provide a written explanation
from the nursing department - Must hold a current unencumbered LPN license with the
State of Oklahoma - Must submit transcript, proof of current LPN license, and acceptance
letter to Redlands nursing program - Must submit typed essay describing “What event
or person influenced your decision to become a nurse?
Russell-Murray Hospice Nursing Scholarship
Must be entering second year of nursing school at Redlands Community College, have
a minimum GPA 2.75, and provide financial need information. Applicant will submit
a one –page essay, with the application, stating the candidate’s view of the “Role
of Nurses in the future.”
Ruth Louise Wallace Endowed Scholarship
Established by Ruth Louise Wallace to extend to present day students the opportunity
she received through the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II. This fund supports
and encourages Redlands Community College students committed to a professional career
in nursing. Must be an Oklahoma resident and a citizen of the United States - Must
be a student entering the nursing program as a freshman or a sophomore at Redlands
Community College - Must have accumulated a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on
a 4.0 scale or a 4.0 on a 5.0 scale - Must submit with the application, a typed essay
describing “What event or person influenced your decision to become a nurse.” - Financial
need will be considered but is not mandatory.
Austin Family Endowed Scholarship
The Austin Family Endowed Scholarship is available to students for up to two years
at Redlands Community College and transferrable to an in-state four-year college or
university for another two years. The recipient can be enrolled full time or part
time but must graduate from Redlands prior to transferring and must transfer to an
in-state public college or university. The applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA or
a composite score of 17 on the ACT and demonstrate financial need. Preference will
be given to graduates of Union City, Calumet, Geary, Hinton, and Okarche high schools,
and residents of western Canadian County.
Doris Anne Smith Memorial Scholarship
Established by the family of Doris Anne Smith to honor her commitment to Redlands
students and Phi Theta Kappa. Applicants must be a May graduate of Redlands, attend
a college or university that is regionally or nationally accredited and be enrolled
in a minimum of six (6) credit hours, have a 3.50 GPA upon graduation, be a member
of Phi Theta Kappa, and include a short narrative of participation in campus, civic
activities, leadership positions, organizational membership, awards, and other honors.
Margaret E. Petree Scholarship
This scholarship is one of the most prestigious awarded by Redlands, going to a graduate
planning to continue their education at a four-year institution. Applicants are to
exhibit outstanding leadership qualities, dedication to the classroom, and superior
academic achievement. Two scholarships are awarded each May to Redlands graduates
transferring to a four-year institution. Be a resident of the Redlands service area
- be a Redlands graduate who has fulfilled all graduation requirements and completed
at least 45 hours of required program at Redlands - cumulative GPA of 3.5 prior to
final semester before graduation - attend a college or university that is regionally
or nationally accredited and be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours - submit
a letter acknowledging the personal benefit derived from the scholarship and expressing
intent to assist others to pursue a college education.
WFO Emergency Funding
The Student Emergency Fund was created to financially assist female Redlands Community College students who are currently unmarried and have children at home, "single mothers." The fund is designed to help eligible students who experience temporary and unexpected financial hardship due to circumstances beyond their control.
Grants are made based on urgency of need and available funding. Funds will be granted to eligible students only after all other funding resources/options have been exhausted. Students can receive assistance from this emergency fund. Up to a maximum of $250 per academic year. A receipt showing funds spent as allocated is required to be submitted within 14 business days of award given.
Requests for tuition and books are not allowed to be paid with this funding source.
