Redlands agriculture program continues winning ways in Fort Worth

The Redlands Community College Agriculture program added another strong showing to this year’s list of accomplishments. The Beef Show Team won a reserve division championship and multiple top placings at the recent Fort Worth Stock Show.

The Beef Show Team exhibited six heifers at the show, which included more than 1000 other cattle on display. Beef Team members fitting and exhibiting the cattle were: Kylie Edwards, Balko, Okla.; Jake Barnes, Broken Arrow, Okla.; Kody Silas, Tecumseh, Okla.; Cortlyn Detrick, Yukon, Okla.; Baylee Beck, Yukon, Okla. and Jase Prough, Altus, Okla.

“Redlands is proud of the hard work and dedication of our Beef Show Team. These college students are fantastic examples of the talent in our agriculture program,” said President Jack Bryant. “We are pleased that the student continue to excel in the classroom and in the show ring.”

The winning heifer was a collaborative effort of several supporters of the agriculture program. The cattle owners who sent heifers to be exhibited by Redlands Beef Team included: Braelyn Berlowitz, Megan Johnson, Erin Barnes and Toney Cattle Co. Additionally, alumnus Wacey McDuffee helped at the show.

MJ Miss Rowena 201 was Reserve Champion in the summer yearling Angus division, shown by beef team member Jace Prough of Altus, Okla. BCII Lady Lucy 2013 won the February Early Junior Yearling Angus heifer class, shown by Erin Barnes of Broken Arrow, Okla. Also exhibited were two Percentage Simmental heifers who finished 2nd and 3rd, an Angus heifer who finished 6th and a Shorthorn who finished 8th.

“It is always fun to take a string of cattle to a national show and be competitive,” said Coordinator of Agriculture Continuing Education and Beef Show Team Coach April Bow. This year with the hard work of the students we were fortunate to grab a banner.
