Redlands Community College, Surrounding Communities Celebrate Chartering of the First Hybrid Epsilon Sigma Alpha Chapter

Redlands Community College, El Reno Public Schools and neighboring communities have joined together to create the very first hybrid chapter of the international service organization, Epsilon Sigma Alpha. This new ESA chapter will be called Epsilon Rho and is open to all individuals with a passion to serve their communities. The Chartering Ceremony was held March 30 on the Redlands campus and featured past and present presidents of ESA chapters from across the state of Oklahoma.

Redlands President Jack Bryant stated, “It is an honor and privilege that our community was selected as the first hybrid chapter in the organization’s history. I am very proud of the dedication to service that our community exhibits and we invite any individuals that want to serve our community and fellow citizens to join us in this great endeavor.”

Since August 2014, Redlands Community College faculty, staff and students have been working across campus and with community members to increase interest in the organization and Epsilon Rho chapter. Approximately 30 Epsilon Rho charter members participated in the chartering and pinning ceremony.

The chapter's officers were also installed at the event. Professor Cherry Rain is serving as president; Students Macie Gillock and Aspen Sutherland are serving as co-vice presidents; El Reno resident and RCC Professional Staff Member Susan Schwarz is serving as secretary, and RCC Professional Staff Member Carolyn Mackey is the chapter treasurer.

ESA supports volunteerism projects for worthy causes– literacy projects, support for domestic violence victims, Hope for Heroes (supporting our troops, veterans and their families), Easter Seals, and the largest project, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. ESA is currently celebrating 40 years supporting St. Jude and is spotlighted on the St. Jude campus in Memphis for super support of more than $165 million.

ESA – Epsilon Rho Chapter President, Redlands Professor Cherry Rain said, "I had the opportunity to attend the ESA leadership conference in Denver last month and met many truly genuine people with a passion to help others. I am happy and honored to serve as Epsilon Rho's first president.”

The ESA – Epsilon Rho Chapter will be hosting a literacy drive beginning at 7 p.m., April 27, with an Edgar Cruz concert hosted in the Redlands Cultural Center. Admission to the concert is a book donation to the ESA Epsilon Rho literacy drive. All books will be appreciated; however, the chapter is specifically gathering books appropriate for the second through fourth grade reading level. More details regarding the concert will be released in mid-April.
