EL RENO, OK – Redlands Community College has been awarded a $1.9 million dollar grant by the U.S. Department of Education that will allow it to significantly enhance the instructional quality and graduation support Native American students and others interested in science-related careers can now receive.

The grant is part of the Department of Education’s Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution (NASNTI) program, and is a capacity building grant designed for Native American and first-generation, disabled, or lower-income students.

Qualified students will receive increased class options and career guidance for their future success in earning Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related degrees.

The grant will include specific services to assist students that includes a Pre-Professional Sciences Academic Coach and a STEM Curriculum Specialist.

The program helps Redlands develop new science courses that are critical to completing the Environmental Science Technology option under the college’s Pre-Professional Science AAS degree, and allows it to implement an aquaculture/hydroponics laboratory into the curriculum.

This is the second NASNTI grant Redlands has received since 2011. It will be divided into approximately $396,000 increments over five years.
