NEW GALLERY EXHIBIT TO FEATURE FORMER OKLAHOMAN’S WORK

EL RENO, Okla. — Redlands Community College is pleased to announce an opening reception for artwork by Darla Zook from 2 to 4 p.m., Feb. 19, in the Redlands Art Gallery. Her work will be on display in the gallery from Feb. 13 through March 31.

Zook grew up in the wide-open spaces of western Oklahoma working with her father on the family farm. These experiences planted in her a passion for the land, plus a desire to portray through her art and music the beauty she sees around her. She now resides on a farm near Kansas City, Missouri.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Art and Music Education, Zook taught art in the public school system for 29 years, retiring in 2006. While teaching, she continued to create her own art and completed a masters degree in Art with an emphasis on transparent watercolor from Central Missouri State University. She illustrated the book The Yoder Outsiders by James Yoder, with both a watercolor painting and pen and ink drawings. While continuing to enter and exhibit in various juried and invitational shows, plus completing commissioned work, Zook also has the opportunity to demonstrate and display her artwork in the Silver Dollar City Annual Harvest Festival for the seventh consecutive year.
