Job Description

Redlands Community College (RCC) is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the NASNTI Student Services Specialist. The Student Service Specialist is responsible for encouraging and advising students in secondary schools within RCC’s service area to develop academic skills and foster interest in pursuing postsecondary education. The Specialist will also serve as an advisor to Native American students at RCC through the Native American Student Organization (NASO). This is a full-time position, funded by the NASNTI (Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution) grant, Part F.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Advise and engage students to develop interest in postsecondary education, including secondary school completion, financial aid and college entrance requirements.
  • Coordinate campus tours, including renovated LRC and encourage hands-on activities for Native American youth.
  • Serving as the advisor for Native American students at RCC through NASO.
  • Correspond with students regarding their admissions status.
  • Advise and enroll new, returning, concurrent, Pre-Nursing and Applied Teach students for admissions.
  • Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Reports to the NASNTI F Director.
  • Participates in meetings that relate specifically to the NASNTI F Grant and NASO.
  • Adheres to the educational philosophy of the college.

 

Qualifications include:

  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with students.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate curriculum and academic support programs for high school students.
  • Well-developed oral/written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Preference given to individuals who are members of groups that have traditionally been underrepresented based on race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability and who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the target
