The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 are federal anti-discrimination statutes that provide civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. Among other things, the legislation requires that all students with disabilities be guaranteed a learning environment that provides for reasonable accommodation of their disabilities.

In order to receive academic accommodations for a disability, the student must provide appropriate documentation of their disability to the DSS office. - Faculty Rights & Responsibilities
Faculty has the right to:
- Refuse requests for accommodations that have not been processed through the Disability Support Services (DSS) office.
- Consult with DSS if they believe an accommodation request fundamentally impacts the integrity of the course/program; creates undue financial burden on the school, or if it causes a safety issue.
- Obtain appropriate consultation with DSS about how to meet the needs of a student with a disability.
- Receive official, and as possible, advance notice of the need for accommodations.
Faculty has the responsibility to:
- Foster an accepting classroom environment for students with disabilities characterized by non-discrimination.
- Cooperate with DSS when a request for accommodation is made. Discuss needs individually and on a timely basis with students requesting accommodations.
- Provide reasonable accommodations in a timely manner to students who have been approved for services by DSS.
- Ensure instructional materials, methods and programs are accessible, effective and equally integrated. Faculty may consult with DSS to provide accessible materials.
- Treat and protect all disability-related information as confidential information.

Redlands Community College Title IX Mission Statement
The mission of the Title IX Office is to fulfill its commitment to protect all persons who visit, participate, work at Redlands Community College programs and activities from discrimination or harassment based upon their gender as outlined in Title IX of the Educational Amendment of 1972 to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Redlands Community College prohibits any type of gender equity discrimination. Title IX Report
Using the Sexual Assault Anonymous Reporting form, victims/survivors of dating violence, domestic violence, retaliation, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and/or stalking may file an anonymous report with the Office of Title IX, whether or not the victim of a sexual assault decides to file disciplinary and/or legal charges against the offender at a later date.
This form is also used to report alleged discrimination against pregnant and parenting individuals as well as transgender individuals.
Please select the appropriate answer to each question. Then, follow the directions at the end of the form.
To keep information anonymous, do NOT include names of victim or perpetrators. If names are included, this is no longer considered an anonymous report and an investigation may be conducted by the Redlands Community College Title IX Coordinator.
A report will prompt the Title IX Coordinator to notify the complainant about supportive measures and to discuss the process to file a formal complaint, but does not prompt a Title IX investigation.
A formal complaint is when a complainant files a signed document alleging sexual harassment and requests the college to investigate the allegation.
There is not a statute of limitations on filing complaints within the Office of Title IX. If you later decide to file disciplinary and/or legal charges, you may initiate this process by contacting the Title IX Coordinator.

At Redlands, we believe in fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion that welcomes and respects everyone for who they are and who they will become. We have established a process that allows students to update a legal name or select a preferred name. This option has been developed to respond to the needs of those who prefer to use their middle name instead of their first name, people who use nicknames of a legal name, international students that might use an anglicized name, or students who use a name that affirms their gender identity.

- Frequently Asked Questions about Preferred Name
What is a preferred name?
A first name, other than the legal first name, by which the student or employee prefers to be identified, which has been designated by the student or employee.
Why are preferred names important?
Calling an individual by their preferred name shows respect. Use of preferred names contribute to providing an empowering, safe, and inclusive environment. Names are an important part of an individual’s identity. Therefore, using the wrong name can cause a person to recall a time or experience when they couldn’t openly express who they are. Additionally, many names are gendered. Use of a preferred name often better aligns with individual gender expression and prevents that person from being subjected to misgendering.
Is a preferred name required?
No. If an individual regularly uses their legal name, there is no reason to request a preferred name.
Can any name be requested as a preferred name?
Yes. You may choose the name of your personal preference. However, Redlands retains the authority to deny inappropriate preferred names including, but not limited to, those that contain offensive or derogatory language, inappropriate use of special characters, or is being used for misrepresentation, etc. Preferred names may also not be used for commercial purposes and therefore may not include a company name, group name, catchphrase, or message.
Will the preferred name be used everywhere at Redlands?
No. Students’ preferred name will be used whenever possible in communications and reporting, except where the use of the legal name is necessitated by Redlands business.
For legal reasons, there are three categories in which preferred names cannot be used:
- Official transcripts
- Documents related to Financial Aid
- Documents related to International Student Services

Can I update my Student ID card to include my preferred name?
Yes. If you have completed the Preferred Name Change process to designate your preferred name through the Registrar, please visit the admissions and advising office on any campus and request to use your preferred name on your Redlands ID.
Individuals who are issued ID cards with a preferred name that is different from their legal name should be cautioned that such cards are issued for the purpose of Redlands business only, and that identification cards issued by Redlands Community College are not considered government-issued identification.
- Training Materials Completed by Title IX Personnel
In accordance with 34 CFR Part 106.45(1)(iii) & 106.45 (b)(10)(1)(D), Redlands Community College is required to publicly post all training materials used by those addressing Title IX complaints.
