Redlands hosts Wine Chemistry Workshop presented by Dr. Barry Gump

Redlands Community College will host a Viticulture Enology Science and Technology Alliance workshop April 18-19 presented by Dr. Barry Gump.

Dr. Gump has more than 30 years of experience in developing and teaching the techniques of wine analysis. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry at The Ohio State University and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of California. Dr. Gump is currently a Co-Principle Investigator and Enology Coordinator for VESTA. He is the Harvey R. Chaplin Eminent Scholar’s Chair in Beverage Management at Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

President Jack Bryant said, “We are excited to continue to offer innovative learning opportunities at Redlands designed to meet the needs of Oklahoma wine industry. Dr. Gump is a renowned leader in the field and we are looking forward to hosting his workshop at Redlands.”

In the two day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to interact in a hands-on analyses of wines including alcohol content, various acid levels, and sugar content under direct supervision in the chemistry lab in the Redlands’ Arts and Sciences building.

According to Redlands agriculture professor Ed Zweiacher, “VESTA is a great organization for people interested in gaining professional development experiences in viticulture and enology. Participants will enjoy getting to learn from Dr. Gump.”

The cost of the workshop will be $150 per participant.
