Renowned Pianist to Serve as Artist-in-Residence

Renowned concert pianist Peter Simon will be bringing his talent and skills to El Reno and Redlands Community College next week as an artist-in-residence thanks to contributions from the Mary K. Ashbrook Foundation and the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma.

Known as “America’s Missionary of Music,” Simon will be performing a free evening concert for the local community and several concerts on campus for El Reno elementary students. The public is invited to enjoy his performance at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21 in the college’s Cultural Center.

A former university professor, Simon believes that classical music is meant for everyone regardless of age or background, and devotes much of his time performing for school districts, assisted living communities and various civic organizations.

El Reno students in the fourth through eighth grades will be treated to Simon’s “350 years of music history in 35 entertaining minutes,” and several area piano students will have the opportunity to play for Simon and receive a critique of their performance.

An international concert pianist and educator, Simon has performed throughout the country. Simon’s performances include Carnegie Hall, a one-man dramatic play on the religious life and music of Franz Liszt, and themed concerts such as “The Music & Poetry of Love” and “The Spiritual Music of the Great Composers.”
