Redlands Community College TRiO Upward Bound is an intensive, year-round, college preparatory program.  Our mission is to assist low-income, first-generation, college bound, high school students in attaining the necessary skills to achieve college admission and completion of their baccalaureate degree.  Redlands TRiO Upward Bound prepares students academically, culturally, and socially to succeed at the post-secondary level.

Upward Bound is a federally funded program founded in 1965 by the U.S. Department of Education. Located at several institutions throughout the country, the Upward Bound Program at Redlands Community College has been providing services to area high school students since 1986.  Redlands TRiO Upward Bound is a year-round program that offers our participants both secondary and post-secondary services that include, but are not limited to the following:  ACT prep workshops; tutoring services; academic, college, and financial aid advising; career exploration; team building and leadership opportunities; cultural activities; and community service.

Redlands TRiO Upward Bound operates a mandatory six-week "non-residential" academic program on our campus during the months of June and July.  Participants receive a comprehensive program of rigorous instruction in math, laboratory science, composition, literature, foreign language, study skills, critical thinking, and computer literacy.  Students also participate in social/cultural events and college campus tours.

To be considered for Redlands TRiO Upward Bound, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled at one of the following High Schools:  Calumet, Geary, El Reno, Hinton, Minco, Union City, or Etta Dale Jr. High School.  Students must have completed the 8th grade.  Most participants join during the 9th and 10th grade and continue with the program through their high school graduation and entry into college.
  • A member of a family in which neither parent/guardian has earned a bachelor's degree or a family whose taxable income does not exceed the level established by the U.S. Department of Education.
