Student Nursing Association Hosts Annual Winter Wonderland

Bring your family, appetite and highest bids to the Redlands Community College Student Nursing Association’s Winter Wonderland. The annual fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Redlands Conference Center, located at 1300 S. Country Club Rd.

Tickets cost $5 and include an onion burger, chips, a drink and a bid number. Guests will have the chance to silently bid on items such as gift certificates to businesses around El Reno, Yukon and Oklahoma City, a Coach handbag and wallet, an outdoor swing and goodie baskets. There also will be a live dessert auction of homemade treats. In addition to lunch and the auctions, Santa Claus will be available for photos from noon to 1 p.m.

“The funds we collect will help pay for student handbooks, lunch-and-learn classes and state and national conventions. It also helps us to keep growing. The association is so much more than a student group; it teaches us networking skills and other tools that we wouldn’t necessarily learn in class,” said Christy Rutherford, SNA president.

But this event isn’t solely about supporting Redlands nursing students.

Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food and new-in-box toys to benefit those in need. Collected food will be distributed between Blessing Baskets and the Redlands Food Pantry. New toys will be donated to Blessing Baskets and given to disadvantaged children during this Christmas season. Plus, there will be a chance to win door prizes for bringing one or both of these items.

Blessing Baskets, a local nonprofit organization, has been serving western Canadian County through its Families with Children Summer Food Program, school supply program and Christmas Baskets program since 1999. The Redlands Food Pantry is located on campus and is a wonderful resource for students.

Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased from any sophomore nursing student by contacting Lana Souders at 405-422-6224 or at the door on event day.
